Sodium alkylsulfonate as collector was used to float hematite by shear flocculation flotation. The effect of the particle size, pulp pH, depressor, shearing strength and shearing time on shear flocculation flotation for hematite was investigated.
The flotation rate of hematite is also shown to be fast at pH 7, and significantly slow at pH 11. From the results, maximum flotation recovery of hematite occurred at pH 7, where a recovery of 85% at a rate of 1.49 min −1 was obtained.
