The Kimberley Process was devised by the major diamond producing nations to protect the integrity of their production and prevent blood diamonds from entering into the legitimate diamond market. The process has been an overwhelming success and diamond smuggling has been drastically reduced from conflict countries.
The Kimberley Process aims to ensure that conflict diamonds do not become intermixed with the diamonds not controlled by such rebel groups. This is done by requiring diamond-producing countries to provide proof that the money they make from selling the diamonds is not used to fund criminal or revolutionary activities.
Mould making is an integral part of the production process. It helps in creating multiple pieces of jewellery of the same design. These designs remain protected and embedded in the mould forever and it is possible to create replicas of the same in future.
